Beyond Infinity

French artist and theorist Serge Salat has recently created an multisensory installation, entitled "Beyond Infinity", in Shanghai's Westgate mall as a vehicle showroom for and sponsored by Buick.  The closed structure measures 12.45 by 10.8 meters at a height of 3.8 meters, which is composed of a steel infrastructure with honeycomb aluminum panels covered in mirrors.  Once inside the installation, as visitors will start to hear the music playing while seeing the lighting from ultraviolet blue to white pulses and shifts to simulate the effects of dawn through sunset as each minute passes by.  The impressive installation is a mystical journey that transports people "into the world of the dream of the red mansion transposed to the 21st century" - a reference used by the artist to the classical Chinese novel by Cao Xueqin.  Ever wonder what infinity feels like?
