One of America's most celebrated painters Hopper is currently educating Paris. Edward Hopper, that is, a romanticist, a realist, a symbolist and formalist, who is honored for the first time by the renown Grand Palais. The exhibition, organized in two parts, first with his years of education at the New York Art School Robert Henri from 1900 to 1924 in comparison with works from Albert Marquet, Felix Valloton and Walter Sickert; second with more of his defined and recognizable style (l'art de la maturité) where two of his most famous paintings House by the Railroad (1925) and Two Comedians (1966) are exhibited. Paris had a special place in Hopper's heart because he spent a year in the City of Light in 1906 and then shorter periods between 1909 and 1910. The turning point of the artist finally came in 1924 with his exhibition at the Brooklyn museum with his Neo-Victorian of Gloucester watercolor painting that also received its recognition commercially at the Franck Rehn gallery. An iconic artist was hence born. If you are interested in this rare occasion, make sure that you check it out before January 28th, 2013.
