Alice Springs, aka June Newton, is the wife of the world renown German photographer Helmut Newton (who got a tribute from the Grand Palais in Paris earlier this year- see our post here). Springs is her photographic pseudonym when she began her career here in Paris back in the 70s. Originally from Australia, she abandoned her career as a theater actress and moved to Paris. She started out with many commissions to work on portraits of some of the legendary stars of today and advertisements thanks to her painting skill before she got serious about her photography. Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint-Laurent, Diana Vreeland, etc, had all been captured by Springs. What makes her portraits stand out is her ability to bring out her subject's most intimate and spontaneous self. She had also done several ad campaigns for the famous Parisian hairdresser Jean-Louis David that appeared in Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire and Nova. She has a style that combines intimacy, humor, simplicity and familiarity. If you are interested to discover Alice's world, you have it until November 4th, 2012.
