Threads, jam, chocolate, magazine tear sheets, puzzles are ordinary objects we all come across (or throw away) everyday easily. They are rather insignificant to most of us but that's not the case in the eyes of the Brazilian artist Vik Muniz. Photographing and reconstructing images of everyday objects, Muniz is the modern day illusionist who is ready to challenge you with iconic paintings and images we all believe to be familiar with. In his latest work entitled "Pictures of Magazine 2," Muniz continues his trompe l'oeil with a hidden message about our society today. A society where the spreading of information is more important than the content itself. Using strips of torn magazine pages, newspapers, ads and books, paintings of Van Gogh, Manet, Picasso and many others are all interpreted to question the viewers their continuous influence in our world today. Muniz's use of paper also addresses the forgotten material that is being replaced slowly in the electronic era of the 21st century. If you think he's got a point, why not go and check out this cool exhibition that will end on July 28th, 2012.
