Parlez-vous français ?

This Saturday marks the first day celebration of the French language and the Francophone Week (la Semaine de la langue française et de la Francophonie in French) where all the Francophiles come together to discuss everything about the French language. This year's celebration is supported by la Comédie Française (The French State Theater) who is also the invited patron. The tradition is to select ten words and to create meanings around them. The chosen ten words of this edition are: "âme (soul) " - "autrement (otherwise)" - "caractère (character)" - "chez (at someone's)" - "confier (confide)" - "histoire (history)" - "naturel (natural)" - "penchant (inclidnation)" -  "songe (dream)" -  "transports (transports)". Everyone is invited to play, to think, to write, to recite or to sing all these words, together, or separately. There will also be calligraphy exhibition at the Musée des Lettres et des Manuscrits with these words as well as some shows at the Maison des Métallos. Are you a fan of the French language? If you are, you will definitely enjoy this whole week of oh la la while learning new vocabularies until March 25th, 2012. You can find additional information and the definitions of the 10 chosen words here.
