7 times more to the West

Sept Fois Plus à l'Ouest (Seven times more to the West) was an ambitious project that aimed to capture the landscapes, the sky and the lightings between July and September 2011 at seven different places in the Brittany regions of France by the French artist Yann Kersalé.  The seven sites are: Le Chaos du Diable à Huelgoat, les Alignements de Mégalithes à Carnac, le Radôme de la Cité des Télécoms à Pleumeur-Bodou, Océanopolis à Brest, le Sillon noir à Pleubian, le phare de l'île Vierge à Plouguerneau et la ZAC de la Courrouze à Rennes.  Originally from the Brittany, Kersalé is an artist who uses light to paint his canvas for the last 30 years.  Instead of showing them in a regular gallery white wall settings, the EDF Fondation (the French Electricity De France foundation) has recreated the nature scenes filmed by the artist with an installation to give visitors a feel of what it was like at these places during filming.  So why seven times? Well, the Celts (where Brittany was also part of that people back in history), according to Kersalé, used to count the weeks in 8 nights.  Seven "lighting expeditions" in the actual physical space, corresponds to seven nights.  And the 8th night is, therefore, an artificial night at the Fondation EDF.  Curious?  You have a few months left to discover it until March 4th, 2012.
