In the digital era today, even the haute couture is getting inspired digitally. We've recently found an interesting fashion project from New York by Mary Huang and Jenna Fizel entitled Continuum: Computational Couture. The idea is by using an application and simple trianglation to create a dress and turn it into a 3D model that will eventually size to personal measurements. A laser plotter cuts the pattern out of fabric, which is then sewn into the dress according to the created shape. The two designers set a funding goal of $15000 that ended on June 3rd, 2011. Unfortunately, they only raised $8749 which was quite considerable but not enough to carry out this project. Although the funding was unsuccessful, we still think this is a fun, interesting and innovative couture project to share with people who are interested in fashion, art and technologies.
You can still create your own dress by playing here on their website. So check it out!
