Advertising in France more than one hundred years ago did not simply recycle histories to promote the products they were selling. They were almost always inspired by historic figures and events to make a product more attractive and easier for the consumers to relate. The exhibition "l'Histoire de France racontée par la publicité (The History of France told by the Advertisement)" showcases over 150 posters and documents from 1890 to 1914 during the formation of the 3rd Republic of France, a time when department stores and consumer-driven society were born. It is very educational and a great example of just how the economic crisis and social situation tend to bring back these representations starting in the 90s yet in a more humorous angle even today. If you are a fan of historic heros such as Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc in French) or our national emblem Marianne, this is definitely a history lesson through drawings and documents that will make you enjoy before April 27th, 2013.
