Hybrid Witness

Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho has been capturing the noise, the street frenzy, identity, attitudes, political stakes and some personal intimate reflections in the cultural capital of the island of Java where he lives with his brushes for years.  And now he is taking that brush to Paris Modern Art museum with his exhibition "Hybrid Witness (Témoin hybride in French)" where the artist will cover the floor, walls and ceiling with mural paintings and will become part of the museum's permanent collections. Aside from those mural paintings, there are also twenty canvases made during his time in Paris with his hybrid characters who look like half monsters, half teenagers, in an attempt to bring an unsettling and ironic point of view, through embroideries, sculptures, animated films, aside from the canvases. The playful science-fiction feel of his work does address serious social issues that are open to all to witness until June 10th , 2012.
