Metropolis

Metropolis, a 1927 German expressionist film directed by Fritz Lang, is an avant-garde film set in a futuristic urban dystopia to explore social crisis between workers and owners in the capitalist society (funny that it is what's happening now in our society today everywhere). There have been several remakes in different decades that followed but none of them was as great as the original.  The version created by Lang was restored during the 80s and 90s by the German film specialist Enno Patalas but some important scenes were still missing.  Miraculously, in 2008, an original version was found at the Cinema Museum of Buenos Aires which finally helped to restore the whole film and its original splendor.  The French Cinemathèque has been honoring the film with an exhibition with its six major sequences: The City of Sons, The Worker's City, The High City, The Rotwang Laboratory, The Catacombs, and The Cathedral.  The original drawings of the sets and the "machine woman" robot, costumes, equiment, stills are all part of this rare seen exhibition.  If you haven't had time to check it out, you have a few days left until Sunday, January 29th, 2012.  So hurry!
