For those of you who are not familiar with the Met Gala, you can compare it as the Super Bowl or the Oscars of fashion. For the Europeans who don't know what Super Bowl is, just think of Met Gala as the World Soccer/Football Champion League in fashion.
So why is it called The Met? The Met is actually the colloquial name for New York's The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is an art museum on the eastern edge of the famous Central Park. The exact location is at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 82nd Street in Manhattan. Hosted by Anna Wintour, and cohosted by Oprah Winfrey and Patrick Robinson this year, the Met Gala usually has a theme and invites famous fashion designers, singers, actors and actresses to attend. It's considered as a runway shows of evening gowns and one of the most talked about events in New York. This year, the theme of the event is to honour the late designer Alexandre McQueen who passed away in 2010.
A little gossip for you at this year's Met Gala. Anna Wintour personally invited and called Lady Gaga but Gaga had a last minute stage fright and refused to walk the Red Carpet. She actually locked herself up inside her dressing room and eventually came out and performed on stage. She explained to all the guests that she would never forget Wintour's personal invitation to perfom but finished her speech with "I'll do my fxxking best" because Anna had requested her not to swear during her performance. Another singer we didn't spot at the event was Katy Perry. Wearing a LED dress and also performed at last year's event, Perry was not seen anywhere this time.
A huge event such as The Met requires a lot of preparation. Here are some of the behind the red-carpet photos that we would like to share with you so that you get a feel of the place.
Yes, these WERE the red carpets arriving at the Red Carpet...
We were a little disappointed at this year's dresses coz we expected to see a lot more spectacular gowns since it was honouring the late designer McQueen. A lot of the dresses just weren't stunning on the bodies that carried them out. Even Anna Wintour's Chanel couture gown from the S/S 2011 collection, not sure if it were the colours, or the embroideries, or the shape, there were just too much going on that don't go together for her.

André is spotted here trying to steal Anna's spotlight right behind her with that blue taffeta which we don't even know if that was a dress or a cape or what the xxxx?
Here Anna is seen with her daughter Bee who is a brunette now and has a shorter hair and actually looked lovely.
McQueen's long time assistant Sarah Burton looking very beautiful and discreet than most of the women on the red carpet.
Madonna would usually go over the top but she was actually very classic last night. In a way, we would've expected her to wear something wild from McQueen instead...
Here are some of the well dressed we found last night. They were really more in the good taste McQueen spirit and they deserve to get an A for their outstanding red carpet walk.
Hamish Bowles looking very Scottish and McQueenish
Hilary Rhoda looking very stylish with this draped short dress
Liv Tyler looking amazing in this Givenchy Haute Couture dress
Demi Moore actually looks very sexy
And of course, Daphne Guinness always looking wild in this McQueen dress
Selma Hayek always has great tastes and in this discreet skin coloured draped dress
Anna dello Russo is always in her theatrical McQueen spirit for some fun
Shalom Harlow looks like she stepped out of a fairy tale story
Some of the dresses were not bad but could've been better and more fun for the event so we gave them a B for this year's Gala
Gisele Bündchen classic beauty in this red gown
Naomi Watts with some sparkles
Eva Mendes in the one shoulder pleated dress. Nice but boring.
Elettra Wiedemann wearing her grandma Ingrid Bergman's dress.
Well, Marc and Robert were just trying to be Brits. Marc could've dresses as his Mrs. Jacobs and that would've been more fun, don't you think??
Ok, so these are the ones that we really didn't understand at all...
The Olsen twins, ok, maybe one of the sisters was not THAT bad... no, they both were unfortunately.
Renee Zellweger's skin coloured lace gown looking so pale
Alexa Chung, we love you but why were you wearing this to the Met Gala???
Carolyn Murphy is stunning but this dress just made her look old hag and slutty (maybe it's Tom who set her up to make himself looks even better next to Carolyn??)
Saoirse Ronan is in Rodate...she just looks out of place and not to mention the shoes...
Beyoncé, Beyoncé, the dress does make you look a little thinner but it just looks like a wrapped sausage with fancy embroideries around the package. Were you able to sit at all?
Rihanna, lace is in but the dress just doesn't bring out your natural beauty
Rachel Roy, you are a designer but the dress just doesn't make the Met statement
Naomi Campbell, we know it's a McQueen you were wearing but it just looks like your dress is ready to mop the floor and it actually makes you look larger if you know what we mean... (we know that you are larger in life already but that's not it..)
Doutzen Kroes looks great in this red dress but red dress on the red carpet made her look like she was wearing the carpet so we actually noticed more the carpet than her.
Kristen Stewart in this Proenza Schouler (with them here) just doesn't have that wowing effect with her dress for some reason. Maybe it's the colors?
Sarah Jessica Parker, once friends with McQueen, even though it's a McQueen but it just doesn't have that McQueen touch to her with this beige beaded dress
Milla Jovovich, with this Marni dress, looks like she was going to a regular party than going to the Met Gala. We were hoping to see her in something more stunning.
Frieda Pinto, even though it's Chanel, it just doesn't make her pop and Chloë Sevigny, even though in McQueen, it just doesn't make her stand out either on the Red Carpet
And last but not least, Blake Lively in this Chanel haute couture, it just doesn't do anything to this Gossip Girl. It's a bit daring but we just didn't think that it made her stunning for the night.
