Last Friday marked the 50th year of the Amnesty International. To celebrate this event, there was a Gala at the famous Parisian theater Théâtre du Châtelet at the centre of Paris with the French National Orchestra performing from 8:00 pm till 10:30 pm with the world renowned French actress Catherine Deneuve as the event's Godmother (Marraine in French). For those of you who are not familiar with Amnesty International, it's an international organization that fights for, defends and protects the basic human rights around the world. You can show your support on their website here (this is the French site but you can also find Amnesty in your own country and language). Many French celebrities such as Claudia Cardinale and a few ministers like Frédéric Mitterand, were also present to show their support.
We were also invited to partake the celebration and here is an excerpt of the beginning of the evening where Geneviève Carrigos, President of The Amnesty International, making her speech with the Marraine of the evening, French actress Catherine Deneuve:
