Starting today, we are doing a daily post called Couture 101 for those of you who are passionate about Paris and fashion. We will be teaching you a French couture word a day so that next time you are here in Paris, you'll know what the French fashionista are talking about and will blend right in!
HAUTE COUTURE
Literally translated as "high fashion" often in English, the term actually means "made-to-measure" but it is more than just a term. It is regulated by the French Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture with very strict set of rules in order to use the status. It is a philosophy and a culture, and where the finest fabrics and materials are used and created with many hours of manual work and everything is made to fit perfectly the body of the future client who will be wearing the clothes.

Ah, I love haute couture! Dior's Spring 2011 collection was absolutely thrilling, and I enjoyed Chanel's as well as Valentino's. Anyway, haute couture as a whole is just amazing. The passion, the work and the quality...pure luxury.
